(ONN) A 12-year-old Pike County boy is in fair condition at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus with encephalitis.
He is the fifth child to be treated at Children's for Lacrosse encephalitis in the past four weeks. Doctor Dennis Cunningham says the other four are back home.
The virus is carried by mosquitoes. Symptoms include severe headaches, nausea and eye pain. The doctor says 90 percent of the time, people who are bitten by an infected mosquito never get sick.
