(20-3) WESTFALL 25-14, 25-16, 25-21 OVER (9-14) MEIGS
SVC regular season champion Westfall rolled to a 25-14, 25-16, 25-21 win over Meigs Wednesday to move to the Division 3 District Final Saturday against Minford at Waverly High School.
Minford also advanced with a 25-14, 25-15, 25-19 win over Federal Hocking in the other semifinal.
Westfall had little trouble in the first two sets, but found themselves trailing 21-16 in the third set, before rallying for the sweep.
Serving was the order of the night for both teams as Westfall served for 14 aces and Meigs 12. Hannah Phillips led the Mustangs with 10 aces while Brook Andrus of Meigs had 8.
On the net, Amanda Curry propelled the Westfall attack with 14 kills and Phillips added 10. Hannah Wallace contributed 8 kills and 4 solo blocks. Kayla Tackett was moved back to the libero position she played all of last year, and had 20 digs for Westfall.
Andrus had 12 kills and 16 digs for the Marauders and Alyson Dettwiler added 8 kills.
(20-3) Westfall meets Minford in the second of three matches to be played at Waverly High School Saturday in the Division 3 district championships. The first match at 4pm will be Huntington vs Alexander at 4pm. The winners of Thursday's Nelsonville York/South Point and Adena/Fairland will play in the third match title Saturday.
The Westfall-Minford match will be broadcast on 94 Country WKKJ with airtime at approximately 5:30pm Saturday.
(21-4) UNIOTO 25-17, 25-18, 25-18 OVER (22-3) WASHINGTON CH
The Unioto Shermans will play for the Division 2 District Championship Saturday after sweeping Washington CH in the semis Wednesday 25-17, 25-18, 25-18 just a couple of weeks after sweeping WCH in a tri-match.
Unioto was never in any trouble throughout the match, seeing another night of balanced offensive attacks from their front line. Alexis Overly had 12 kills and 15 assists, Taylor Overly had 11 kills, while Halle White and Karee Neff added 8 kills each. Anna Karr had 5 solo blocks and on defense, Emily Ward had 22 digs and three aces.
The Blue Lions had Emily Bath knocking down 11 kills and Carleigh Chaffins dished-out 22 assists.
Unioto meets #1 seed (23-1) Athens at 4pm Saturday for the D2 District title at Southeastern High School. Athens stormed back from being down 2-0, to beat Sheridan 24-26, 21-25, 25-23, 25-23, 15-12. 94 Country WKKJ will broadcast the match live with airtime at 3:45pm, while providing score updates on Huntington-Alexander in the D3 District Finals.
