The two teams picked to be atop the SVC battled head-to-head Friday night with Paint Valley (5-0/2-0) taking home the win 38-24 over Zane Trace (1-4/1-1).
Zane Trace was first to get on the board with a five yard touchdown run by Trey Davis, taking a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter. Paint Valley was able to score on it's next possession with a one yard touchdown pass from Anthony McFadden to Dylan Estep.
On the ensuing Zane Trace possession, Mark Clifford hit Colin Swackhammer as he was getting the hand-off, then scooped-up the ball and scampered forty yards for the score. After forcing a turnover on downs, Paint Valley was able to get in the end zone for the final time in the first half on a 15 yard touchdown run by Mark Clifford.
Zane Trace was able to put together a 17 play drive late in the second quarter capped off by a 28 yard field goal by Montana Fry to make the score 18-10 at the half.
The only score for either team in the third quarter came from a Anthony McFadden 10 yard touchdown run. Paint Valley took a 24-10 lead into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, Zane Trace made their way into the end zone on a 18 yard touchdown run by Nate Mettler. On the Pioneers next possession, a mix up in the backfield caused a fumble that Tony Hatfield of Paint Valley was able to pick up and run for a 32 yard touchdown.
Colin Swackhammer rounded out the scoring for Zane Trace on a 4 yard touchdown run. Paint Valley was able to get one more score on an 8 yard touchdown run by Anthony McFadden to end the game.
For Paint Valley, Mark Clifford led the way with 113 yards on 20 carries and 2 touchdowns. Anthony McFadden gained 101 yards through the air on 6/15 passing. McFadden added two scores on the ground rushing for 89 yards on 10 carries. Paint Valley was penalized 9 times on the night for 75 yards.
For Zane Trace Nate Mettler had 75 yards rushing on 14 carries. Joel Dunkle threw for 115 yards on 6/8 passing.
Zane Trace was penalized 9 times on the night for 85 yards.
