With hopes of hiring more police officers, the city of Chillicothe submitted its grant request to the Cops Hiring Program.
"This is a grant we've applied for and have been successful in getting in the past," said Chillicothe Mayor Luke Feeney. "Essentially, it's a federal government grant that can allow us to increase our staffing."
He said the city's grant application focused on community policing, highlighting the heroin and opioid crisis.
Mayor Feeney said grant recipients should be notified in the fall, but it could be next year before the city knows if its grant request will be approved.
