Mayor Feeney Says Community Police Committee Review Nearing Completion

Chillicothe Mayor Luke Feeney says the committee appointed to look at the city's Police Use of Force Policy following the George Floyd death in Minneapolis, have reiterated that "we have a good police department".

Feeney says Chillicothe's "use of force policy" is based on a national standard and is pretty much complete. He says the committee's full report, which will include suggestions to help police officers with engaging the public, is still being worked on.

The mayor has hinted they are working on ways to assist police officers with resources that can help them defuse incidents that might be more "mental health" related than criminal related.

The mayor says the committee believes those "enhancements" should be things that will help the police department working with the community, not do anything to decrease their effectiveness.

Feeney says details of their report will be released when completed.
