One Person Drowns in Rocky Fork Lake

One person drowned in Rocky Fork Lake on Tuesday. According to Paint Creek Joint EMS & Fire District Public Information Officer Branden Jackman, safety crews were called to the area of South Lakeshore Drive just before 6:30 p.m. on a report that two people had fallen through ice near a private dock. Jackman said one male juvenile tried to rescue a female juvenile in the north side of Rocky Fork Lake. The male was able to resume himself from the ice and water, and he was treated for hypothermia at the Highland District Hospital, said Jackson.

Jackman said divers recovered the female's body at 11 p.m.

An Ohio Department of Natural Resources officer also died while on his way to the scene of the drowning. Officer Jason Lagore passed away enroute to the scene Rocky Fork State Park. ODNR officials say there are not many details right now about what caused his death. He spent 15-years on the force.
