Annual Dinner Celebrates Wedding Banquet of First Lady Born in Chillicothe

(The "Lucy House," Chillicothe) -- An annual tradition celebrating the the First Lady who was born in Chillicothe is in two weeks. 

A catered dinner with fellowship will commemorate the 1852 marriage of future White House residents Lucy Ware Webb and Rutherford B. Hayes. 

The echo of the Hayes' post-Christmas wedding banquet will start 4pm at the Lucy Hayes Heritage Center at 90 West Sixth Street in Chillicothe on Saturday, January 7th. (The snow date is January 14th.) Reserve your seat by this Wednesday, December 28th, at $25 a person. 

"Elegant Eats" will again cater the event. Gather for conversation and appetizers at 4pm, with dinner served at 5. It should be light enough outside to comfortably head home after 6 pm.

Lucy Ware Webb and Rutherford Birchard Hayes were married at her mother’s house in Cincinnati in a simple ceremony on December 30, 1852. Their wedding banquet was held the day after. Lucy was the first college-educated president's wife, and the first to be referred to as the "First Lady" during her tenure. She was also three-time First Lady of Ohio during Rutherford's governorship, before he was elected president in 1876.
