Chillicothe Yard Waste Site Filling Up Again

Monday night, Chillicothe Council heard the mayor raise concerns over the yard waste site. Kevin Coleman reports.

Mayor Luke Feeney said the free public site for city residents to dump branches and clippings near the sewer plant on Renick Ave is filling up again. He says even the EPA is nagging the city about the site.

Feeney said residents are welcome to dump there between 8 and noon Wednesday and Saturday mornings. But he says it's so popular that the city will need to rent big equipment of hire someone to clean it out. Feeney says that will run $50,000 to $100,000.

He said two big problems are people coming in from outside the city, and businesses, to cheat and use it as a free dump site - and the city may have to staff the site to to control that.

The mayor said the fuel for chipping machines is the biggest cost of cleanup.
