TENNIS: Sectional Tournament Results
The Tennis season came to a close for the Cavaliers Thursday but Taylor Sprouse will be playing Satruday in the Division I Girls Tennis Sectional.
Chillicothe players finished the day with a 3-2 Singles mark and 2-2 Doubles record before bowing out as a team.
In Singles play, Sprouse defeated Sarah McMills (Athens) 6-0, 6-0 and then defeated Kendall Whisman (Watkins Memorial) 6-0, 6-0. Sprouse was playing her next round when showers postponed play to Saturday morning at 8:30am.
In other matches, Stacey Lapurga defeated Nimi Gupta (Thomas Worthington) 6-2, 6-2 but lost to the No. 2 seed Alexia Meyer (Olentangy Liberty) 6-0, 6-0 and Bekah Ray lost to Rachel Carline (Olentangy Liberty) 6-0, 6-0.
In Doubles action, the team of Amanda Mares/Hannah Hirsch defeated Paradis/LaBenne (Mt. Vernon) 6-3, 6-4 and then lost to Halliday/Mattey (Athens) 6-4, 6-0. The team of Jera Copley/Hannah Arth defeated Marosis/Dean (Watkins Memorial) 6-1, 6-4. They then fell to the No.2 seed Seneviratne/Setner (New Albany) 6-0, 6-0.
BOYS SOCCER: Cavs 4, Hillsboro 0
The Cavaliers improved their mark to 15-0 with a 4-0 victory at Hillsboro Thursday.
The win completed a season sweep of the SCOL competition.
Chillicothe heads into the weekend hoping for a good seeding at the Division I tournament drawing this weekend.
The Cavs’ regular season finale is next Thursday at Herrnstein Field with Waverly. First kick is 7pm.
Coach Mike McCorkle will be a halftime guest on WBEX Friday night during the broadcast of the Cavs-McClain football game.
GIRLS SOCCER: Hillsboro 6, Cavs 1
Chillicothe fell to Hillsboro 6-1 to close out SCOL play at 6-4 in the league.
The Cavs’ four league losses came to both Clinton-Massie and Hillsboro.
Chillicothe’s lone goal was scored by Payten Davis on an assist by Lexi Brown.
The Cavs wrap up the regular season with a home match with Zane Trace on Monday at Herrnstein Field. First kick is 7pm.
VOLLEYBALL: Cavs Win in Straight Sets
Chillicothe earned a straight sets victory over Miami Trace Thursday, 25-10, 25-15, 25-19.
The avenged a five set loss to the Panthers earlier this season.
Katelyn Martin had her best game of the season recording 10 kills with 10 blocks, 7 aces, 5 digs. Cavs Coach Chelsey Jones said Martin was intimidating “She controlled that net and had Miami trace front row frustrated.”
Other stats included Sydney Cotterman with 4 kills and in the digs department, Emma Roderick with 6,
Anna Degarmo, Claire Corzine 5 each.
Roderick also had the longest serving streak of the night with 7 in a row with 3 aces.
DeGarmo had 23 assists out of 30 sets total.
Thursday was senior night which helped get the team pumped up.
“This is the most consistent I have ever seen them play 3 sets so far this year” said Jones.
The last time the Cavs and Miami Trace met, Chillicothe won the first sets but lost the last three.
“Last night I saw a whole different side of my girls” added Jones. “They were enthusiastic and hustling after everything. Our serve receive and Libero has improved so much.”
The win improves Chillicothe’s record to 7-3 in SCOL action.
The Cavs (8-10 overall) host McClain Tuesday and head to Clinton-Massie Wednesday to close out the SCOL season.
