As reported last week, Chillicothe Athletic Director Garin Veris told WBEX the selection committee to fill the Head Boys Basketball coaching vacancy May 9th. The position opened when Gary Kellough reisgned last month after seven seasons (read more here).

Veris, who is a member of the selection committee, says the committee will narrow the list down to eight candidates, then two or three for second interviews with a final candidate in time for a special board meeting (on May 9th). Veris adds, however, there's potential the decision may not come until after that date.

In a release to WBEX by Principal Jeff Fisher, there were twenty candidates which were reviewed by the committee.

Eight will be interviewed, including Piketon's Jeff Lisath, Vinton County head coach Matt Combs, former Adena head coach Richie Beverly, Travis Robertson who just resigned his post from Waverly a couple of weeks ago, Erin Woody a varsity assistant with D1 state champion Pickerington Central, Tokia Fant, head caoch at Horizon Science Academy, Canton South's Andrew Meister and Joe Richards, a 6th grade teacher at Chillicothe Middle School.

There are some familiar names among the candidates, Hemlock Miller's Tom Bremer, former Jackson head coach Todd May. And the list was far ranging, too. Canton South's Meister, Christopher Dorsey, Associate Head Coach Daniel Webster College in New Hampshire to Mike Decker from Woodlands High in Pittsburgh.

As for the players, there's anticipation. "They're chompin' at the bit..." said Veris. "They're anxious. Whoever the coach is , we want to get them in front of the kids as early as possible..." just do to the need for summer camps which take place for basketball program participants.
