The Circleville Tigers scored first to start the game, then never led again in their 65-30 Division 2 District Championship loss to the Chillicothe Cavaliers Friday
at the Ohio University Convocation Center.
The Cavs built leads of 18-10
after the first quarter, 29-12 at halftime, then 44-28 after three
periods.
The Tigers managed to mount a 11-0 run early in the third
quarter for a 33-23 score, but were never able to get any closer. Circleville scored only 2 points in the fourth quarter.
Chillicothe shot a robust 54%
from the field at 25/46- including 2/8 from outside the arc. They were also 13/21 from the charity stripe. The Cavs grabbed 31 rebounds and had 12 turnovers.
Circleville shot a chilly 23% from the floor at 13/42-
including 1/3 from the arc and did not make a free throw. The Tigers grabbed 19 rebounds and committed 17 turnovers.
Chillicothe's Zach Johnson led all players with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Aaron Elliott added 17 and MaLik London with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 9 blocked shots. Jalen Jones had 8 assists togo along with 8 rebounds.
Circleville had only one player in double figures as Carson Haddux scored 10. Nathan Moats had 8 and John Hammond added 6 points.
(16-7) Chillicothe advances to the regional semis Thursday, March 15th against Saint Clairsville with tipoff at 6:15pm. 1490 WBEX airtime will be at 6pm.
(14-9) Circleville ends one of their better boys basketball seasons in a decade, making their first district tourney appearance since 2002.
