The Cavs early season woes continued Friday night, slipping to 0-4 after a 55-46 loss to Logan at Hatton Gym.

After dropping a one point decision Thursday night, Chillicothe came out flat in their SEOAL opener.

The two clubs exchanged baskets early, but when the Cavs went cold, Logan got on a roll, closing out the first period on a 17-2 run for a 19-4 lead. It was the first game for the Chieftains after their regular season opener with Athens was postponed due to the Bulldogs’ run in the OHSAA Football Playoffs.

“I told the boys yesterday it was practice 24” said Logan coach John Helber, who said before the game, his team was chomping at the bit to see someone other than themselves on the court.

Cavs coach Drew Meister said in his postgame interview on WBEX, “I told the guys, I could’ve called time out, but I would’ve told you the same things I’ve said in the other times, we’re going to have to work through it”.

Logan finished the quarter hitting 7-of-11 shots to the Cavs’ 2-of-8.

The Chieftains remained steady through the second for a 30-16 halftime lead.

The Chillicothe then put together a run in the second half, forcing seven Logan turnovers in the third and converting them into points. Zach Johnson picked up 11 of his 28 points in the period as the Cavs whittled the Logan lead to 39-30.

The Cavs closed to within 49-45 on a pair of Tim Beard free throws completing a 29-19 second half run with two minutes to play.

“That’s just legs” said Meister, after his club had to make a similar run against Amanda Clearcreek the night before. Missed shots and turnovers helped create the whole the Cavs had found themselves in.

Logan’s Josh Mutzner led the Chieftains with 17 points, 15 in the first half. GavenJourdan added 14.

The Chieftains (1-0/1-0) will play Lancaster Monday while the Cavs (0-4/0-1) head to Fairfield Union Tuesday.
