A win cures a lot of ills, and for Chillicothe Friday night, it was a good feeling.
The Cavaliers 67-36 victory over Jackson was the first in Drew Meister’s tenure at CHS.
Chillicothe jumped out to a 16-3 first quarter lead and didn’t look back. Zach Johnson led the Cavs with 21 points, most on points in the paint while Tommy Bolte and Pierce Knisley teamed for another 28. Ten Cavaliers got into the scoring column.
“We put in a little wrinkle this week in practice when we go with some of our competitive drill work , you get two points for an assist…” said Meister. So, our guys, it started to peak their interest a little bit. But, in a game like this, you can share the wealth, get everyone involved… it is a fun game to get out and push it a bit…”
Jackson, who Coach Bob Kight explained before the game, is in a rebuilding year with most of his players never having had experience in a Junior Varsity uniform, let alone a Varsity one. Despite the lack on floor experience, his Ironmen showed some life. Casey Walker paced the Jackson attack with 14 points.
But from the start, it was clear the Cavaliers would rule the day.
One of the things that excites Meister is his team is “…they’re staying coachable. That’s not always easy under a new regime and you’re comin’ out of the shoot 0-and-5 against some pretty tough caliber teams, and they’re doing that. I’m really happy with what’s going on in our program.”
Chillicothe (1-5/1-1) led 32-15 at the half and 50-19 through three quarters in picking up an SEOAL win, which is big heading into Portsmouth next Friday. The Trojans lost at home to Warren 45-31.
