After earning their first win of the season last weekend, Cavs coach Ron Hinton and his Chillicothe team was hopeful for a winning streak. Instead, Hinton was left searching for answers in a 19-7 homecoming loss to Gallia Academy.

The Blue Devils used a deliberate running attack, which ground out a score on their first possession, one that chewed up the better part of the game’s first eight minutes.

Brandon Taylor scored the first of two 1-yard touchdown runs by the senior tailback. Taylor’s touchdown capped a 72 yard, 13 play drive that took 7 minutes and 46 seconds for a 7-0 lead.

Chillicothe didn’t touch the ball until the ensuing kickoff.

On its first possession, the Cavs used five plays to answer the Devils td. Ryan Mathis connected with Zach Johnson on a hook and lateral to Jalen Jones to put Chillicothe in Gallia territory. Then the sophomore signal caller found Johnson on a 36 yard pass to even the score at 7 all.

Mathis was 7-of-11 for 134 yards through the air. Unfortunately, that was it for the offensive attack.

The Blue Devils merely played keep away most of the night. Gallia had 52 carries for 274 yards almost half of the runs were by Taylor who finished with 182 yards on 25 lugs.

Chillicothe managed only 26 yards on the ground, but lost those yards on sacks by the Devils late in the game.

After the Cavs had tied the game in just 64 seconds, Gallia Academy proved they, too could score quickly. Taylor broke outside for a 48 yard run and found the end zone again just two minutes later for a 13-7 lead.

Neither team scored in the middle quarters. Gallia put the final nail in the coffin after an 89 yard drive, yet another 7:46 possession that took 14 plays with the final one an 18 yard run by Cody Russell for the 19-7 final.

Chillicothe, now 0-2 in the SEOAL and 1-6 overall will board the bus for Warren Friday. The Warriors improved to 2-1 in league play and 4-3 on the season by outlasting Logan 40-34 in double overtime.

Gallia Academy evened its SEOAL mark at 1-1 and is 4-3 overall. Three of their four wins have been on the road. The Blue Devils head to Portsmouth for Week 8.

NOTES: Madison Moss is the 2011 Homecoming Queen and Marcus Dunn was crowned King… McKinlee Gray scored a Monroe’s Collision t-shirt for the Big Collision of the Game. The 275lb senior put a left shoulder pad on a rushing Brandon Taylor that spun Taylor to the ground as if he’d run into the Cavs Spirit Rock outside the north end zone of Herrnstein Field.
