Not since 1990 have the Cavaliers been in the position they found themselves Friday night after a 56-6 win at Washington Court House.
Twenty-three years ago, the Cavs had a perfect season. For Ron Hinton’s Cavaliers it’s uncharted territory.
Hinton was hoping for his offense to get in gear following slow starts over the first four weeks and they responded. Chillicothe gained 296 yards – in the first half.
Chillicothe jumped out to a 14-0 lead on touchdown runs by Nate Rosenbauer (7 yards) and Markel Cain (33 yards). Cain tacked on the second of his three scores on a 15 yard run to make it 21-0 before the Blue Lions knew what happened.
Washington final got on the board on a three yard run by Ty Smith to complete a 13 play 73 yard drive. It was the only positive for the Blue Lions on the night.
The Cavaliers answered with touchdowns on their final two possessions of the half on just nine plays. Ryan Mathis capped a 5 play 41 yard drive with a 1 yard run, Rosenbauer scored again on a one yard run completing a 42 second drive over 65 yards. It was enough to give the Cavs a 35-6 margin at the break.
Cain found the end zone again to start the second half and Chillicothe put the game away on runs by Carl Harris (8 yards) and Julius Lee (12 yards) for the 56-6 victory.
Chillicothe finished the game with 468 yards on the ground led by Cain’s 11 carries for 163 yards. In the air, Ryan Mathis was six of nine for 97 yards.
The Cavs defense was solid again, holding the Blue Lions to 113 yards (58 rushing, 55 passing).
Chillicothe (5-0/2-0 SCOL) hosts McClain (3-2/0-2 SCOL) for Homecoming Friday. The Tigers suffered a 27-21 loss to East Clinton. The Lions (3-2/1-1) play a non-league game at Columbus Ready Friday.
