VOLLEYBALL: Chillicothe is set up for a first place showdown Thursday after picking up a four set victory over Logan Monday night at Hatton Gym. After dropping the first set 25-16, the Cavs took command with a 25-23 second set victory and dominated the third and fourth sets 25-15, 25-13. Chillicothe travels to Warren Thursday night. Last weekend, Chillicothe earned a win over host Dublin Scioto in a quad match. Chillicothe suffered losses to Athens and Marion Pleasant. The Cavs are 8-5 overall and 5-1 in the SEOAL.

TENNIS: Parisa Bennett earned a 6-4, 6-3 1st Singles victory and the Doubles teams of Chantel Lowe-Courtney Berry and Ellen Schmitt-Jessi Pentecost gained straight set wins to give the Lady Cavs a 3-1 match win over Reynoldsburg Tuesday. Liann VanVolkinburg dropped her 2nd Singles match 6-2, 6-2 while Tiffany Noel's match was postponed due to darkness. Noel lost the first set 7-5 and was ahead 3-2 in the second when the match was called. Chillicothe is 5-8 and head into a rematch with Portsmouth Wednesday. The Trojans handed the Cavs their only SEOAL loss earlier this season.

GIRLS SOCCER: Chillicothe has bounced back from their only loss of the season to earn victories over Warren (6-0) and Reynoldsburg (2-0), improving their record to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in the SEOAL. Chillicothe's next three games are on the road, beginning Thursday night at Whetstone in Columbus.

BOYS SOCCER: After falling to Warren last Thursday (5-0), the Cavs kicked to a 2-2 draw with Waverly on Saturday and dropped a 4-0 decision at Circleville Tuesday. Chillicothe is 1-6-4 through 11 matches.

VOLLEYBALL
The Lady Cavs scored two victories this week, improving their SEOAL mark to 4-1 and grabbed a firm hold on second place behind Warren. Monday night, Chillicothe rallied from dropping their first two sets with Gallia Academy to win the final three sets 25-23, 25-14, 15-6.

Thursday night, the Cavs rolled past Portsmouth in straight sets, 25-9, 25-15 and 25-6.

The second half of the league season begins Monday with Logan at Hatton Memorial Gymnasium.

TENNIS
Chillicothe Tennis team fell 3-2 to Lancaster Thursday. The Cavs' 3rd Singles match turned out to be the deciding match as Tiffany Noel fell short in a marathon with Haley Stockwell. Noel won the first set easily 6-1, then just misssed in the second set 7-6 (8,6) and Stockwell shut the door 6-0 in the deciding set.

1st Singles Parisa Bennet was defeated by Monica Allen 6-2, 6-2 and 2nd Singles Lian VanVolkinburg was shut out 6-0, 6-0 by Taylor Mulder.

The Doubles teams gained the only wins, Courtney Berry-Ellen Schmitt finished with a 6-4, 6-4 victory in 1st Doubles and Jessi Pentecost-Stacey Lapurga won the 2nd Doubles 6-1, 6-2.

Chillicothe will travel to Jackson Monday.

BOYS SOCCER
Following an 0-4-3 start the Cavs earned back-to-back wins over Zane Trace (4-1 Saturday) and Gallia Academy (4-1 Monday).

Chillicothe hosts Waverly Saturday.

GIRLS SOCCER
The Chillicothe bounced back from their first loss of the season (Pickerington Central 5-1 Saturday) to shut down Warren 6-0 Thursday night.

GOLF
The Cavs dropped a dual match with Huntington on Wednesday, 188-193. Huntington's Brennan Pollock carded a 41 to take medalist honors. Gabe Preston had the low score for Chillicothe with a 43. Other Cavs scores, Tyler Morrisey (46), Pierce Knisley (50) and Noah Wright-Piekarski (55). The Lady Cavs Hannah Littler carded a 64 and Emily Mihelich a 77.

The SEOAL season wrapped up last week with Gallia Academy taking the title, followed by Warren, Logan, Jackson, Chillicothe and Portsmouth.

The Chillicothe Girls Soccer team dropped their first match of the season, falling 5-1 at Pickerington Central. The Lady Cavs are now 5-1 and will host Warren this Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Boys gained their first win scoring a 4-1 victory over Zane Trace. The Cavs entered the match 0-4-3. The three ties have come in their last four games.

The Golf team placed 5th in the Zane Trace Invitational. Gabe Preston (83) and Pierce Knisley (87) had the Cavs' lowest scores on the day.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL UPDATE: Chillicothe's Drew Basil (Soph, PK) accounted for all of Ohio State's points in a 24-6 loss at Miami, coming on his first two collegiate field goals of 22 anad 24 yards each (read more)... Former Cavalier Chris Givens (Sr. WR) and the Miami Redhawks fell short in a 27-20 loss to Minnesota. A pass to Givens late in the game was broken up in the end zone. Givens had 7 catches for 84 yards and caught a 7 yard TD pass to tie the game at 16. (read more) 

Thanks to some marathon play by Parisa Bennett and the doubles team of Ellen Schmitt and Jessi Pentecost, the Lady Cavs swept their tennis match at Athens Tuesday.

The 1st Singles match finished 7-6 (7,2) 1-6 and 6-2 in a 3 hour long match with Bennett outlasting the Bulldogs' Meelim Lee. Coach Janet Disbennet said "She (Bennett) had some really long points and really long games."

It was quite similar for the 2nd Doubles Team in a match which "had to finally be decided by a Super Tiebreaker in lieu of a third set." added Disbennet. Schmitt and Pentecost finished up with a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10,6) score.

Elsewhere, 2nd Singles Liann Vanvolkinburg and 3rd Singles Tiffany Noel earned wins as did the 1st Doubles Team of Chantel Lowe and Courtney Berry.

Chillicothe is 4-6 overall and 2-1 in the SEOAL and will face Upper Arlington's B team at 4pm Wednesday at OU-C.

The Cavs Golf team dropped a dual match with Zane Trace, 169-186. The Pioneers' Trevor Bennett was the medalist with a 40. The Cavs' Pierce Knisely fired a 44, Gabe Preston and Tyler Morissey followed with 45's and K.J. King added a 52.

On the girls side, Hannah Littler and Emily Mihlech finished neck and neck at 63 and 64.

The Lady Cavs Soccer team is off to a 3-0 start following last week's 7-0 shelling of Logan.

The Boys Soccer team is still in search of its first win on the season. The Cavs had two ties last week before dropping a 3-1 decision to Marietta on Saturday.

The Volleyball team lost a home match with Warren last week. The Warriors took the first two sets 25-23 and 25-13 before Chillicothe took the next two 25-21 and 25-20. Warren took the deciding set set 15-9.

It's a busy week ahead, mostly for Golf and Tennis. The Lady Cavs Tennis team will host Jackson Monday, head to Athens Tuesday, host Upper Arlington Thursday and travel to Hilliard Davidson Saturday. in Golf, Chillicothe faces Huntington and Southeastern at Dogwood Hills Monday, play Huntington and Zane Trace Tuesday then Wellston on Thursday.

Volleyball has two home matches, with Harvest Prep Monday and Jackson Thursday.

Girls Soccer travels to Minford Monday and is home with Jackson Thursday. Boys Soccer is at Jackson Thursday.

Cavs Boys Soccer had what coach Mike McCorkle termed "a wild night" Tuesday at Athens High School Tuesday night.

The Cavs were ahead 1-0 at halftime but Chillicothe saw victory slip away with just  seconds remaining.

The Bulldogs scored four unanswered goals in the second half to take the lead 4-1.

Then the Cavs countered with 4 unanswered of their own to take a 5-4 lead with 10 minutes left in regulation.

Then Athens hit the game tying score with 14 seconds left to get the 5-5 tie.

Wednesday, Lady Cavs Tennis worked a 5-0 match sweep of Logan to improve to 2-6 overall and 1-1 in the SEOAL.

Parisa Bennett and Liann VanVolkinburg won their singles matches 6-0, 6-1 while Tiffany Noel won her match 6-1, 6-0.

The Doubles teams helped complete the sweep as Chantel Lowe and Courtney Berry held their competition scoreless 6-0, 6-0 and Jessi Pentecost and Emily Schmitt were 6-1, 6-3 winners.

The team plays again Monday, hosting Jackson at OUC.

Chillicothe Golf hosted a Girls tournament at the Chillicothe Country Club Wednesday. The Cavs had just two golfers, Emily Mihelich (62) and Hannah Littler (82) who played as individuals.

Westfall (196) and Teays Valley (262) participated as teams with the Mustangs' Sunny Stewart (43) as meet medalist.

The Lady Cavs Volleyball team had some nail biters along the way, but managed to outlast Washington Court House in four sets Saturday.

Chillicothe won the first set 25-23, lost the second set 23-25, then cleaned up the final two sets 25-22 and 26-24.

The Cavs are off until Thursday with Warren at Hatton Memorial Gymnasium.

Chillicothe Tennis (1-6) had a close match in their SEOAL opener with Portsmouth Wednesday, falling 3-2, but the Lady Cavs earned their first team victory by sweeping their match with Circleville, 5-0. Their next match is at Logan Wednesday.

The Cavalier Volleyball team (2-1, 1-0) opened SEOAL action with a straight sets win at Logan (25-15, 25-23, 28-26) Wednesday.  

The Girls Soccer team (2-0) has outscored their two opponents 12-1 after a 5-1 last night at Warren.

The Boys Soccer team (0-3) has dropped two games this season to teams they've had success against in recent seasons, falling to Fairfield Union Wednesday 2-1 and suffering a 5-0 loss to Warren Thursday. 

The Golf team's Pierce Knisley carded a medalist score of 39 in a dual match victory with Huntington at Dogwood Hills (177-209), but the team had arough outing, finishing sixth in Thursday's SEOAL Match with a team score of 196.
