Patric Buchroeder is the new Director of the Chillicothe Marching Cavaliers.
Buchroeder praised the efforts of his band members who worked long days at band camp at The University of Rio Grande “Very productive, I felt the Ross County Fair was a great kickoff for our season… anytime there’s a new director there’s gonna be a slight transition in emphasis or direction and I think that (the Fair) was a good display of the pace and the tone we’re going to set from here on out.”
Numbers are low in the ranks, but Buchroeder says “In some ways it’s an advantage to have a smaller group, at least starting out because it allows you to give more individualized attention and really increase the quality of instruction that each member of the band is getting.”
Buchroeder plans to focus on the having the band be the best it can be. “By showing that to the community and to our students coming up through our feeder programs that they’re going to want to be a part of something that is demonstrating excellence on a consistent basis.”
The new director was a section leader for Ohio University’s Marching 110 in the percussion section.
“We’re going to be competing as well as doing our halftime shows in the 110 style” meaning they’ll be doing their version of the OU high-step, pop tunes and the energetic performance that Ohio University is known for and what hopefully Chillicothe will be known for.
The Cavs made their debut with the music of Earth, Wind and Fire last Friday at Hamilton Township. In the coming weeks the band will feature the music of Adele and Broadway tunes. The band’s competition show will display one song from three different shows throughout the season.
