In Volleyball, Chillicothe dropped two of three tight marches Saturday at Dublin Scioto.
The Cavaliers took Athens in three sets dropping set one 22-25, but coming back to win 25-21, 25-17.
The Cavs then lost to Thomas Worthington in three sets winning the first set 25-18, but then losing 21-25, 23-25 and in the third match lost to host Dublin Scioto 25-23 and 25-23.
Coach Bret Wrightsel says Hayley Robinson had another outstanding day “she was 29 of 32 serving for 91% and 4 aces. Nikki Alberta also served up a great performance” making 36 of 38 serves for 95% and 4 aces. “Rylee Bouillion also served 13 for 15 for 86% and 4 aces” said Wrightsel.
Hitting leaders were Katelyn Martin with 26 kills, Maddi Glendening with 25 and Kali Kight 17.
The Junior Varsity also went 1-2 on the day beating Athens and losing to both Thomas Worthington and Dublin Scioto.
The Cavaliers are 8-5 overall and 3-0 in the SEOAL.
Chillicothe resumes league action Monday with Gallia Academy at 6:30pm at Hatton Memorial Gymnasium. The night will be a fundraising “Win for the Cure” benefit. Former Cavalier Koty Chandler was diagnosed with a form of leukemia and the volleyball team is using the night to raise funds to assist his treatments.
There will be a cake auction, face painting, t-shirt sales, a raffle and open donations. Monies raised will be donated to Southern Ohio Survivors for men’s health issues in the name of Koty Chandler.
The Chillicothe Girls Tennis Team finished third out of the eight teams in the Kim Shepherd Doubles Tournament at Hilliard Davidson on Saturday.
Coach Janet Disbennett told wbex.com “The team played really well today and had good competitive matches. Last year we finished 6th out of 8 in this tournament. So, finishing third was a big improvement.”
Upper Arlington "B" was first followed by Hilliard Bradley and Chillicothe.
The team of Liann VanVolkinburg and Jessi Pentecost had the top performance for the Cavs, finishing first in their flight with wins over Lancaster (8-5), Hilliard Davidson (9-7) and Upper Arlington (8-5).
Chillicothe’s regular Doubles Teams (1st Doubles) Courtney Berry-Ellen Schmitt and (2nd Doubles) Tiffany Noels/Amanda Mares were in the middle of the pack.
Berry-Schmitt were third in their flight with a win over Westerville South (8-0), lost to Hilliard Bradley (8-2), but a beat Worthington Kilbourne (9-7).
Noels-Mares dropped their opening match to Upper Arlington (8-0), then defeated Westerville South (8-1) and Lancaster (8-3) for a 5th place finish.
Normal Singles players (1st) Taylor Sprouse and (2nd) Parisa Bennett teamed together for a fifth place finish. They fell to Hilliard Bradley (8-6), but then took Hilliard Davidson (8-1) and Hilliard Darby (8-3).
Chillicothe (12-1/4-0 SEOAL) gets back to dual match play Monday with Portsmouth at the courts at OUC at 4:30pm.
The Cavs Boys Soccer team’s winning streak is now four matches after a 5-0 win over Zane Trace. Chillicothe’s victory was also its fourth consecutive shutout.
The Cavs travel to Gallia Academy Tuesday at 6:30pm.
