After an eight day layoff, the Chillicothe Girls Tennis team got some court time at Upper Arlington, but their match with Upper Arlington "B" was interrupted by rain. Coach Janet Disbennett said “Three matches were done and we were down 1-2. We were winning the 2 matches that were still being played when it started raining.”
Those two match had Parisa Bennett winning the first set in 2nd Singles 6-3 as the second set was just starting. Lioann VanVolkinburg won her first set 6-4, but trailed in the second 3-4 in 3rd Singles.
Taylor Sprouse won her 1st Singles match 6-1,6-1 for the only victory be decision.
1st Doubles team of Courtney Berry/Ellen Schmitt lost 6-1,6-2 and 2nd Doubles Tiffany Noel/Amanda Mares lost 6-3,6-0.
The Cavaliers open tournament play in the Girls Division I Sectional at Reynoldsburg High School Thursday morning at 8:30. 1st Singles player Sprouse is seeded #2 in the tournament. For the first time in a long time, the Cavs are playing what Coach Disbennett is calling “straight up”, meaning the Singles and Doubles will be the same as they have been all season. In previous tournament appearances, Disbennett has teamed some of her Singles players into Doubles teams. But this year, watch for Sprouse at 1st, Bennett at 2nd and VanVolkinburg at 3rd Singles with Courtney Berry-Ellen Schmitt at 1st Doubles and Tiffany Noel-Amanda Mares at 2nd Doubles.
Survivors from Thursday will play again Saturday with the top four teams and top four individuals heading on to the District tournament at Hilliard Davidson October 14th and 15th.
