Chillicothe swept Pickerington Central in their Volleyball Sectional Semi-final Tuesday night at Hatton Memorial Gymnasium in straight sets 25-17, 25-19, 25-18 to advance to the Central District sectional final on Thursday against Hilliard Davidson. Davidson beat Marion Franklin Tuesday 25-7, 25-8, 25-11.
Davidson’s only loss this season has been to 2011 state runner-up Dublin Coffman.
Chillicothe was led by Hayley Robinson with 34 assists and a 14 of 15 93% serving effort. Parisa Bennett led the defense with 11 digs and was 10 of 11 serving for 91% and 2 aces. Kali Kight was the difference maker in set three as she went 10 for 10 serving with 2 aces to separate the Cavaliers from Pickerington in a run of 9 points to seal the 3 set victory. Maddi Glendening led the offensive attack with 14 kills and Katelyn Martin had 11.
The Cavaliers now improve their record to 18-5 overall.
The Boys Soccer team had its season end in the Sectional Semi-Finals, falling to Waverly 4-0.
Chillicothe unloaded on Greenfield McClain Monday night in the first round of the Southeast District D II Girls Soccer tournament. The Cavs scored a 7-1 victory to advance to the Sectional Final against Logan Elm.
Five different Cavaliers scored goals, Rachel Conaway and Corrine Petino had two apiece, Libby Bennett, Kaitlynn Cunningham and Jenna Porter each found the back of the net.
The Cavs led 3-1 at the half.
Chillicothe (9-7-1) will face Logan Elm Thursday at 5:00pm for a trip to the District Semi-Final at Jackson.
The Braves were 5-0 winners over Fairfield Union Monday night.
Ben Haller finished second in the SEOAL Boys Cross Country Meet Saturday as the Cavaliers placed 3rd overall.
Haller’s 17:20.12 time was 13 seconds behind winner Parker Blain of Warren (17:06.74).
Four Warriors placed in the top 10.
The Cavs’ Lander Zook (18:18.69) and Donavan Lowe (18:21.28) finished 11th and 12th respectively and Mark Hirsch (19:14.13) was 18th.
In the Girls Meet, four Cavaliers placed within 60 seconds of each other… in 18th, Elyse Black (24:11.00) 19th, Geri Cheney (24:15.17) 21st, Joanne Newman-Jones (25:01.47) and 23rd Megan Sparks (25:18.31).
The Lady Cavs placed 4th as a team.
Both the Boys and Girls will run in the Division I District Tournament at Watkins Memorial next Saturday afternoon.

In the first match vs Unioto Chillicothe lost the first set 23-25, and won the next two 25-15 and 25-18. Waverly then beat Unioto in two sets but I am not sure of scores. Chillicothe then beat Waverly who is ranked 13th in division two, 25-23 and 25-21.
Cavalier stat leaders for the day were Hayley Robinson with 56 assists and a 88% serving day and 1 ace.Maddi Glendening had 18 kills on the day with Katelyn Martin with 16 and a 18 of 21 serving and 5 aces performance. Kali Kight also went 18 of 21 with 3 aces and 11 kills. Parisa Bennett led the team in digs with 11 on the day.
The two Chillicothe match wins improves their mark to 17-5 overall
Chillicothe now plays Pickerington Central Tuesday at 6pm at Hatton Memorial gym in the first round of the Division I Central District tournament.
Freshman Taylor Sprouse earned a split in her two matches Friday at Hilliard Davidson High School in the Girls Division I District Tennis tournament.
Sprouse trailed 1-4 in her first set against Dublin Coffman's Ashwatha Thenappan, but rallied to win the match 6-4, 6-3.
Her day ended after falling to Hilliard Darby's Ashley Thai 6-1, 6-1.
Sprouse finished the season 20-3.
The Lady Cavs Tennis team landed five players on the All-SEOAL Girls Tennis Team for 2012 and Chillicothe’s Janet Disbennett is the Coach of the Year.
The team includes three Singles players, Taylor Sprouse (1st), Parisa Bennett (2nd) and Liann VanVolinburg (3rd) and the 1st Doubles Team of Courtney Berry-Emily Schmitt. The Cavs’ 2nd Doubles Team of Tiffany Noel-Amanda Mares received Honorable Mention.
Sprouse’s only loss of the season came to Portsmouth’s Ali Miller who was named Player of the Year for a third consecutive year.

The All-SEOAL team consists of four singles players and two doubles teams as voted upon by league coaches. Doubles teams had to play at least four league matches together. Each team received one automatic honorable mention slot; coaches had the option of naming a singles player or a doubles team.

Chillicothe finished up league play with a 3 set sweep of visiting Portsmouth 25-15, 25-18, 25-11 to finish a perfect 10 and 0 in the SEOAL and 30 and 2 in sets.
Leading the Cavaliers on senior night were Hayley Robinson with 32 assists, Parisa Bennett had 7 digs and Maddi Glendening 6 defensively. Glendening and Kali Kight both had 9 kills apiece and Kight had 8 aces on a 17 of 19 serving effort at 90%.
Chillicothe will host Unioto and Waverly on Saturday in a tri-match beginning with CHS vs Unioto at 11 am followed by Waverly vs Unioto and CHS vs Waverly in the last match.
The Cavs open post season play on Tuesday with Pickerington Central at Hatton Memorial Gymnasium.
The Chillicothe Boys claimed a share of the SEOAL Soccer championship Thursday night. The Cavs began the night with a 9-1 win over Gallia Academy. Then, Logan helped Chillicothe by tying Warren 1-1. Both Warren and Chillicothe finish the SEOAL season 5-1-2.
The Cavalier Girls Soccer Team and Tennis Sectional champ Taylor Sprouse will be in our Cavalier spotlight at halftime of the Cavs on BEX.
Coach Zach Breth recaps the regular season in which the Lady Cavs (8-7-1) finished Wednesday with a 7-1 victory over Logan. Chillicothe also earned a 3-1 win over Unioto Tuesday. They’ll face Greenfield McClain in the first game of the post season Monday at McVicker Field with a 5pm first kick.
Sprouse won the Girls Division 1 Sectional Tennis tournament at Reynoldsburg High School last weekend and is in the District tournament this weekend for the opportunity to reach the State tournament.
VOLLEYBALL: In the 43 team Division I Central District, Chillicothe was seeded 14th and will be hosting Pickerington Central next Tuesday, October 16th at 6pm at Hatton Memorial Gymnasium. It’s the first time Chilllicothe will host a Central District Volleyball match.

A Cavalier win and they’ll play the winner of Hilliard Davidson- Marion Franklin on Thursday the 18th at 6pm. Davidson is the higher seed at (9th). Should Davidson beat Marion Franklin, the Cavs would travel to Hilliard. If Marion Franklin Wins, the second round match would be played at Chillicothe.
Overall Dublin Coffman was the # 1 seed with Pickerington North at # 2 and Westerville Central # 3.
Cavs Coach Bret Wrightsel likes his team's chances in the first round, but also says "I don't take anybody for granted. I feel we can also win 2nd round if we put our complete game together but will concentrate on 1st round right now. We are pleased with our seed and think the Columbus teams gave us some respect to put us in the position we are in."
The Cavs have played several D1 Columbus area teams each of the 5 years Wrightsel has coached the Cavaliers. "You have to beat some of them in order to get respect as we have done." Wrightsel adds "We have victories over Central Crossing, Hilliard Davidson and Olentangy Orange in tournament play the last two years with losses to Canal Winchester, Dublin Coffman and Tri-Valley."
Chillicothe's 2011 campaign ended in the second round with a loss to Canal Winchester.
BOYS SOCCER: #5 seeded Chillicothe (6-6-3) will travel to play #4 seed Waverly (12-2) Tuesday October 16th at 5pm with the winner playing the Unioto/Gallia Academy winner on Saturday October 20th at 4pm for a trip to the District tournament at Lucasville Valley on October 24th.
The Cavs dropped a 3-2 decision to Waverly earlier this season.
GIRLS SOCCER: The #4 seeded Chillicothe Girls (6-7-1) will host #13 seed Greenfield McClain (1-12) on Monday October 15th at 5:00pm with the winner playing the Logan Elm/Fairfield Union winner on Thursday October 18th at 5:00pm for a trip to the District tournament at Jackson.
Chillicothe has not played McClain this season.

CROSS COUNTRY: Ben Haller had the Cavaliers’ top finish of the day at the Unioto Cross Country Invitational Saturday.
Haller finished 13th with a time of 17:30.55. Lander Zook placed 21st just ahead of Donavan Lowe’s 24th place finish.
Unioto won the Boys Meet. Chillicothe finished 7th as a team.

In the Girls Meet, Rachel Conaway placed 11th with a time of 21:18.11. Anna DeGarmo place 15th.
Unioto also won the Girls Meet with the Cavs placing 3rd.

Chillicothe freshman Taylor Sprouse won the Division 1 Sectional at Reynoldsburg High School Saturday.
The Cavs' 1st Singles player defeated Jane Haffer (New Albany) 6-4,6-4 in a 2 1/2 hour long semi-final match.
Then in the finals defeated the number-1 seed Carol Vitellas (New Albany) 6-3,6-1.
Sprouse will play in the Central District tournament next Friday at Hilliard Davidson High School at 9am.
