In the aftermath of Wednesday's resignation by Chillicothe Athletic Director Garin Veris, the search began for finding his replacement.
In an interview with WBEX, Superintendent Jon Saxton credited Veris with doing things which "needed to be done to try to transform the culture in the district and raise the level of expectations in our athletic department". Among them, initiating the renovation on the stadium at Herrnstein Field, helped finish the bleacher improvements and trying to unify the booster groups, "He accomplished quite a lot in just a short period of time." said Saxton.
Saxton adds it was Veris who with Principal Jeff Fisher, spearheaded the pitch for a move to the South Central Ohio League which takes place in 2013. "I don't think without the presentation Garin and Jeff presented to the SCOL that we would've been able to persuade them (league members) to invite us to join... they made a compelling case for Chillicothe joining."
Saxton says a tentative timetable has been set for the July school board meeting to find a replacement for Veris. August 1st is a normal start date for administrative positions.
Saxton's press release regarding the resignation of Garin Veris:
"Having spoken with Garin regarding the reasons for his resignation, I completely understand the decision he has made. While I am somewhat surprised by this decision, and definitely disappointed, I certainly understand it and wish Garin nothing but the best in his pursuits. I have personally admired Garin for a number of years and appreciate the manner in which he pursued the responsibilities of the job as athletic director at CHS. He is an excellent role model for our young ladies and gentlemen."
"Garin was one of the first people to arrive in the morning and was usually the last to leave in the evening. We share a philosophy of putting kids firs, having high expectations for both our academic and extra-curricular programs. We appreciate Garin's willingness to stay on and help with the transition, and will move quickly to find a replacement."
