Hitchens Commits to James Madison

Chillicothe Boys Basketball coach Gary Kellough confirms Anthony "Humpty" Hitchens is headed to James Madison University in in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
Hitchens was granted his release from the University of Akron last month, allowing him to move to another school. He made a verbal commitment to James Madison Thursday.
At press time, it remains unknown if Hitchens will be eligible to play this coming season.
James Madison is a member of the Colonial Athletic Association. The Dukes finished 13-21 last season.
Hitchens will see some familiar faces attending JMU are Devon Moore of Northland and Julius Wells who played against Hitchens and the Cavaliers in the 2008 state championship game for Toledo Libbey.
James Madison visited Ohio State last November as part of the Pre-Season NIT, falling to the Buckeyes 72-44.

Four Cavaliers Headed to College; Buckeye Basil Spring Update

Family and friends gathered in the Chillicothe High School cafeteria this week in honor of four more Cavalier athletes heading to college.
 Monique Lee, a 4-year starter for the Basketball Lady Cavs, will be reunited on the basketball floor with her sister Megan at Division II St. Andrew's Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, North Carolina.Mo is excited to get to be on the same floor with her sister again saying "Just playing with her, we know each other, I know playing with her (again) will be fun."
Lee hopes to be an orthopedic surgeon.
Three football Cavaliers Troy Netter, Tyler Holz and Keagan Arledge announced their plans.Netter is headed to Division III Otterbein who plans to use him at wide receiver. He'll also see some familiar faces when camp opens this summer. Former Cavs Kent Parker, Jordan Benson and Ron Smith. "Ronnie's gonna be a big help because he's playing wide receiver just like I am... Kent, always a familiar face and JB. I mean, we'll have friends everywhere."Netter will be a business major.
Holz, who's going to Division III Defiance, says he'll miss the Friday night atmosphere at Herrnstein Field. "High school football is probably one of the purest things you'll ever see and if you're a part of it, it's something that'll stick with you through a lifetime. You meet friends, and honestly, the guys they'll be family, brothers the rest of your life. It's a new chapter, I get to continue my career and I am blessed enough to continue that."
Holz will be majoring in Criminology and Psychology. Keagan Arledge is headed to Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, Pennsylvania to study Veterinary Medicine. "It's been my life long dream. I've always loved animals and science, it's been my choice forever." Arledge says getting to play sports at Washington and Jefferson is a plus "... going there for academics and the opportunity to play football... and hopefully swimming."Arledge became the 40th Cavs football player to head to college under retired coach Bill Davidson.Davidson's 35th player, Drew Basil, just completed spring practice at Ohio State.
As an early enrollee, Basil had the opportunity to get on the field quickly. He participated in the Buckeyes' Kick Scrimmage and in the Spring Game nailed two PATs, handled kickoffs and hit a 47-yard field goal.  Basil said kicking in the 'Shoe is pretty awesome. "It's an amazing feeling... the closed end just seems like it's forever and ever away."
He adds there's plenty of backdrop for taking aim, "We (kickers) have alot of targets to pick from through the uprights. You have the flag poles up on the top, the flag pole right down the middle and I guess even sometimes there's the security guards up on the towers that you can pick a spot and aim for."Basil's biggest thrill of the spring game wasn't making the kicks, it was walking onto the field and hearing the Buckeye faithful. "The crowd just just went crazy. And seriously, the bumps on my arms just popped up as soon as they started cheering."
The Buckeyes open play with Marshall September 2nd.

2010 Coach K's Camp of Champions Coming

 The 2010 Coach K’s Boys Basketball Camp of Champions is scheduled for the first week of June inside Hatton Memorial Gymnasium.
Session 1: June 7, 8, 9 and 10 from 9am-12pm daily for grades 2, 3, 4 and 5 (present grade 2009-10)
Session 2: June 7, 8, 9 and 10 from 1pm-4pm daily for grades 6, 7 and 8 (present grades 2009-10)
Eligibility: All area schools. Grades 2-8 (school year 2009-10)
Tuition: $35:00 (includes Camp T-shirts)

LOGAN — While Marietta High School remains atop the Southeastern Ohio Athletic League William E. (Bill) Thomas All-Sports Trophy standings, MHS saw what was a 12-point lead at the end of the fall sports season sliced under double figures during the winter.
Marietta (51.5 total points on the school year) only scored 10 points — eight by its league-champion girls basketball team — during the recently-concluded winter sports season and leads second-place Chillicothe by 9.5 points.
Chillicothe (42 points) leads a logjam of five schools who are within 5.5 points of one another in the second-place through sixth-place positions. Logan (39.5) is third, with Warren (39) fourth, Gallipolis (37) fifth and Ironton (36.5) sixth.
Jackson (28.5) is seventh and Portsmouth (20) eighth.
Marietta, which has won five of the last six All-Sports titles, won four fall championships to get out of the gate quickly.
But Chillicothe, which was third after the fall season, had the best overall winter of all SEOAL schools (16.5 points) even though it didn't win any titles. CHS was second in boys basketball, third in wrestling and tied for third in girls basketball.
Logan had runner-up finishes in wrestling and girls basketball to turn in the second-best winter (14.5 points) and jump from fourth to third. Warren dropped from second to fourth, with the school's best winter finish being a tie for third with Portsmouth in boys basketball.
Gallipolis, Ironton, Jackson and Portsmouth were all five through eight after the fall season as well, but Ironton won the boys basketball title and Gallia Academy took the wrestling crown to tighten the standings heading into the spring season.
Gallipolis is the only school other than Marietta to claim more than one championship thus far this school year. The Blue Angels won the volleyball title last fall.
Points are determined on an 8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis in sports where all eight schools field full teams. In other sports, points are determined as to how many teams competed for the title in a particular sport.
Since Ironton and Portsmouth don't have wrestling, for example, those points were determined on a 6-5-4-3-2-1 basis. Half-points are awarded in the case of ties.
Five championships will be determined this spring: baseball, softball, boys and girls track, and boys tennis.
The SEOAL, one of the longest-running prep conferences in the state, was formed by William E. (Bill) Thomas of Wellston in 1925 and began competition with a boys track meet that spring, with 1925-26 being the first full season of conference competition.
This is the final season in the SEOAL for Ironton, which will leave the league to play as an independent following the 2009-10 school year. The South Central Ohio Bowling Conference announced their conference awards with Chillicothe juniors Cody Oates and Lance Gilbert named to the first team. John Weber from CHS captured second team honors.
Chillicothe's Pat Highland was named Coach of the Year for the boys for the second year.
Over the weekend Springfield Kenton Ridge High School captured the OHSAA boys state championship with Youngstown Boardman HS winning the girls title at Shawnee Lanes.

Heading into the final day of the State Wrestling Tournament at Ohio State University's Schottenstein Center, one area wrestler has a shot at a state championship and two others have a chance to reach the top six.
In Division 2, Miami Trace's Trevor McIntosh, who has yet to lose through two days of competition, is one win away from a state championship in the 189lb class.
Also in Division 2, Chillicothe's heavyweight, Danny Demick (285), Washington CH's Riley Shaw (215) and in Division 1, Tyler Luft of Teays Valley can finish as high as third place and no worse than a sixth place finish.
The top six finishers earn All-Ohio status.
Westfall's Vince Prickett (145 in Division 3) and Keaton Webb Miami Trace (119 in Division 2) wrestle for seventh place Saturday.
