Lady Cavs Beat Logan 59-50, Advance in Central District
Thursday 02-18-2010 11:04am ET
Logan won the first two meetings by six points each. The Cavs got their revenge with a 59-50 win in the Girls Division 1 Central District tournament. Holly Lemay had a career night with 25 points to lead all scorers. After trailing 10-5 midway through the 1st Quarter, the Cavs put together a string of baskets to pull ahead 16-13 by the end of the period. The Cavs outscored their SEOAL nemesis 11-7 for a 27-20 lead at the half. Chillicothe coach Shawn Blue said he wanted his team to press defensively and push the ball up the floor against Logan to wear the Chieftains down. That strategy worked as Chillicothe capitalized on Logan turnovers and jumped ahead by 13 points. The Cavs Whitney Harewood scored 10 for the only other double-figure scorer for Chillicothe. The Cavs will play Reynoldsburg in the next round on Wednesday 2/24 at Hamilton Township High School. Photos by Dana Cousins wbex.com Purchase photos

Cavs Saturday Recap

Cavs "Better" Despite 54-43 Loss to Reynoldsburg
Cavs Coach Gary Kellough was pleased with his team's effort in a 53-45 loss to Reynoldsburg Saturday night.
After falling to Warren 43-42, Kellough was livid with his team. But following the post game chat with his players and again in the shoot around on Saturday, Kellough said the Cavs responded well to what he and his staff were seeing on the floor against Reynoldsburg.
The Raiders tout two of the best guards in Central Ohio in Morehead State bound Kevin Gray and Brandon Rushton (college undecided), who average 25 and 17 points per game respectively. Gray dropped 20 of his 26 in the 1st quarter as Reynoldsburg took a 22-14 lead. Gray his five NBA length three-pointers, had a a standard field goal and a FG-free throw combo in the game's first 8 minutes. Rushton finished with 13 points.
Chillicothe trailed by seven and nine points for much of the game. In the third quarter, the Cavs' Michael Turner lit up the nets for 11 of his game leading 27 points to pull Chillicothe to 47-40.
The Cavs opened the 4th quarter with a bucket to cut the deficit to five, but could get no closer.
As a team, the Cavs shot 44% while the Raiders (aided by Gray's near perfect shooting in the first half) managed to nail 54% from the field.
The Cavs cut down on their turnovers (9) while forcing 13 by Reynoldsburg. Jalen Ragland hit for 9 points, Tyler Manion had 5 and Malik London added 4 points and 4 blocked shots.
Chillicothe enters Sunday's Division 2 Southeast Tournament drawing at 10-7.
The Cavs will play three games next week to close out the regular season, hosting Waverly Tuesday, Jackson Thursday and then heading to Logan Saturday afternoon.

In an admittedly "sloppy, sluggish" game, coach Shawn Blue was happy to come away from Jackson with a 48-29 victory.

Alyssa Oates and Whitney Harewood had 9 points each, while Brittny Strawser and Monique Lee combined for another 9.
Chillicothe (11-8/8-5) will host Jackson Monday night in a make up game to close out the regular season, then travel to Hamilton Township High School Wednesday to face Logan for a third time this season in the Girls' Division 1 Central District tournament.
