Warren Steals 43-42 Win at Chillicothe
Friday 02-12-2010 11:03pm ET
The Warren Warriors came to Chillicothe on a mission. In his pregame interview, Coach Blane Maddox said the Warriors had alot of pay back on their minds. "They've taken alot of things away from us that we wanted with championships, sectional, districts and league, we want to get to that level and be able to beat them consistently we try to work at it everyday to get better at it." Playing without an injured Austin Cunningham, who blistered the Cavs for 30 points a month ago in Vincent, the Warriors walked away with 43-42 victory at Hatton Memorial Gymnasium. The Cavs had a 7-point lead in the first quarter before the Warriors closed out the period trailing 10-5. Then Warren outscored the Cavs 15-6 as Chillicothe went on a scoring drought for more than three minutes. The effort put the Warriors ahead 20-16 at the half. To open the second half, Chillicothe forced a 20-20 tie and matched Warren basket for basket before regaining the lead 26-24 midway through the third period. Warren turned a couple of Cavalier miscues into points to take a 5 point lead at 33-28. Chillicothe got those points back over the final 1:42 to earn a 33-33 tie through the third quarter. Michael Turner hit a three-pointer at 5:11 to lift the Cavs ahead 36-34. Chillicothe maintained a lead until the 2:49 mark when Tyler Manion fouled Warren's Jeremy Hastie on a three point attempt. The sophomore hit three straight field goals to tie the game at 39. The teams exchanged leads three times before Brandon Fivecoait hit a layup to put Warren ahead 43-42 with 1:13 left. Chillicothe had three more shots in the final minute, but failed to score again. It was Warren's 9th win in their last 10 games, and snaps Chillicothe's 3 game winning streak. Clay Ellenwood and Fivecoait finished with 12 points each to lead Warren (13-5/7-4). Turner paced the Cavs (10-6/9-3) with 14 points, Malik London had 13 points and 8 blocked shots and Jalen Ragland hit for 11 points. Tyler Manion and Zack Johnson chipped in two points apiece. Warren forced 14 Cavalier turnovers while committing just nine. They also made out at the charity stripe, making 15-of-19 to the Cavs' 7-of-8. From the field, Chillicothe shot only 36% to the Warriors' 43%. Chillicothe returns to Hatton Gym Saturday night with former OCC foe Reynoldsburg, who entering play Friday was 10-6 on the season. 2010 Cavalier Football Schedule Released
Friday 02-05-2010 7:35pm ET
Cavalier fans will see a steady diet of games in September and October. Herrnstein Field will host five games during a six week period. The first game under new head coach Ron Hinton will be played at a spot he's familiar with, Hamilton Township, a former Mid State League foe. The final six weeks will be in the newly realigned SEOAL. The league season begins September 24th with Portsmouth. It's a home game, so fans hoping to see the new Portsmouth facility will have to wait yet another season. The schedule also has return trips to Gallia Academy and Logan, spots the Cavs visited in 2009. Ironton comes to Chillicothe in the home opener on September 10th, however it's no longer a league game. The Cavs also face former league foe, Athens and Marietta returns to Herrnstein Field for the first time since October 2007. Just two of the teams reached the playoffs in '09 (Ironton and Logan). The opponents' combined '09 regular season records of 57-43. | DATE | OPPONENT | H/A | W | L | | 8/27 | Hamilton Twp. | A | 0 | 10 | | 9/3 | Big Walnut | A | 6 | 4 | | 9/10 | Ironton | H | 8 | 2 | | 9/17 | Athens | H | 9 | 1 | | 9/24 | Portsmouth * | H | 7 | 3 | | 10/1 | Marietta * | H | 1 | 9 | | 10/8 | Gallia Academy * | A | 2 | 8 | | 10/15 | Warren * | H | 7 | 3 | | 10/22 | Jackson * | A | 7 | 3 | | 10/29 | Logan * | A | 10 | 0 | * Denotes SEOAL game
