The Lady Cavaliers used free throws to pull away from Gallia Academy in a 52-46 home win, Saturday. Chillicothe went on a 7-0 run to open the game, but Gallia responded to keep the score relatively close throughout the first half, trailing Chillicothe13-8 after the first period of play and then 26-20 after the second.
Chillicothe extended its lead in the third quarter, 42-31, and then sealed the win in the fourth at 52-46.
From the field, Chillicothe made 17 of 38 for 45%, while Galliashot 20 of 59 for 34%. The difference in the game, however, came down to the free-throw line as the Lady Cavs drew a number of fouls, connecting on 8/9 in the first half and 16/28 overall (compared to Gallia's 6 of 10).
Chillicothe senior Alyssa Oates led her team with 16 points and 16 rebounds, while freshman Bri Dawes earned 12 points and had 3 assists.
The game was the Lady Cavaliers’ (9-9) final home game of the season, with recognition made to senior players Oates, Mindy Williams, Kaylee Wright, Sheyanne Helton, and Sam Claytor.
