Bowlers Place 3rd in State Kick-Off Tourney, Chaney on All-Tourney Team

The Chillicothe Cavaliers Boys Bowling team finished 3rd in the 30 team field of the Ohio High School Invitational Kick-Off Tournament held Saturday at the Palace Lanes in Columbus.

Trevor Chaney's 664 series led the Cavs. Chaney also made tournament's first team. Robbie Vest, the Cavs returning state qualifier had a 602 series. Fairport Harding won the tournament with Beavercreek the runner up.

The Cavs resume action Monday night bowling in the Pioneer Tournament, at Plain City.

Lady Cavs Drop Home Opener 54-33 to Athens

Going in Saturday, Coach Shawn Blue knew his young Cavaliers would be challenged by an experienced Athens team. The Bulldogs left Chillicothe with a 54-33 victory.

Athens sports one of the best shooters in the Southeast District (Dominique Doseck) and a couple of big post players under the basket. Add in 30 Cavalier turnovers and the end result is a long night.

“We challenged the girls after the game. We know we’re young, but we’re tired of using that as an excuse… that’s 30 times you don’t even get a chance to score.”

The Cavs also failed to take advantage of their trips to the free throw line, making just 11 of 23 shots “and I think five of those were front ends of 1-and-1’s”.

The Athens pressure gave the Cavs fits throughout the game. “We knew they were gonna press and just didn’t do a good enough job to put us in a good situation”.

The sophomore tandem of Jenna Holton (16 points) and Bri Dawes (15 points) paced the Cavs scoring all but two of Cavs’ points.

Chillicothe hosts Groveport Tuesday night.

Wrestling Cavs Earn 5th Place Finish at Circleville

Chillicothe placed near the middle of the pack at the annual Circleville Kiwanis Invitational wrestling meet.

Coach Mike Peck was missing a number of wrestlers from the lineup but said they should be able to return in the following weeks.

"Fifth place is a very solid finish for a starting lineup that had one senior,  two juniors, six sophomores and three freshmen."

Peck added "Christian Collins had a hard fought championship match going into the final 25 seconds tied 3-3, to end up losing 6-3."

Jacob Price battled through an ugly cut to the head from an elbow that stopped the third place match for around 10 minutes to close the wound and clean up the blood. "Jacob fought through the adversity to win by tech fall 16-1."

Gene Dunn bounced back after a hard fought loss to eventual champ Tobin Anderson (Washington Court House) in the semifinals to break a 6-6 tie in the final 15 seconds of the match with a takedown.

Tom Dunn lost a tough semifinals bout. "With seven seconds left in the match, opponent Aaron Greer (Washington Court House) was able to break the 7-7 tie with an escape and record the victory." Dunn to placed third with a win over teammate Jalen Mischal who was wrestling as an extra and finished fourth."

The Cavs return to action in a tri-match at Paint Valley December 12th.
