Wrestling the inaugural State Dual Meets Wednesday, Chillicothe traveled to Circleville’s Everts Middle School to tangle with Hamilton Township.
The Cavs trailed 24-6 after five matches, but the Chillicothe Wrestlers battled back to win their first round match against Hamilton Township. 48-33.
Nick Lawhorn (113), Caleb Price (132) and Gene Dunn (182) earned victories by forfeit.
In the contested matches, Chillicothe used the pin as a deciding factor in five of them. Jacob Price (138) pinned his opponent in 2:27, Jacob Johansen (145) did so in 3:20, Christian Collins (160) in just 1:17, Tyler Kelley (195) followed suit in 1:58 and Michael Williams (220) in 3:44.
Cavs coach Mike Peck said his team was trailing 33-30 and “(we) needed a major decision, tech fall, or pin to clinch the match. Tyler Kelley came through with a pin to wrap things up and Michael Williams put extra icing on the cake with his pin.”
Even in a loss, Daiquan Hall’s (170) match was important. Peck said Hall “battled to a 15-11 to decision to only give up 3 team points for Hamilton Township to make the score 33-30 in Hamilton’s favor.”

The Cavs didn’t have Jenna Holton available at Washington Court House which Coach Blue said hindered Chillicothe’s player rotation, something they had Saturday against Gallia. “We didn’t get into that eight man rotation, where we had that rotation tonight.
