Cavs Cold in 3rd Quarter, Season Ends in Loss to Reynoldsburg
Thursday 02-25-2010 1:14pm ET
It became the final game of the season for Chillicothe, but the Lady Cavs came to the party to play.
Reynoldsburg, the Number 6 seed of 42 teams in the Girls Division 1 Central District tournament, held just a one point lead at halftime as Chillicothe kept pace with the athletic Raiders, 21-20.
That athleticism took over in the third quarter as Reynoldsburg held Chillicothe scoreless for nearly 6 minutes and took a 37-25 advantage.
Alyssa Oates hit a field goal early in the third as the teams traded baskets at 23-22, but the Cavs couldn't get a basket until Whitney Harewood hit a three pointer just before the period came to a close.
Meanwhile, Reynoldsburg's stifling defensive pressure frustrated the Cavs and when the Raiders went to the free throw line, they couldn't miss. Reynoldsburg was 13-of-15 through the 3rd and finished 19-of-25 for the game.
None of the Cavs scored in double figures. Scoring 8 points each were Harewood and Monique Lee. Holly Lemay chipped in 6, Mariah Smith and Alyssa Oates had 4 points apiece and Kristen Smith hit a three pointer for the Cavs' final bucket.
Chillicothe loses six players to graduation, led by four year starter Mo Lee, Lemay, Harewood, Maria and Kristen Smith and Brittny Strawser.
The Cavs finish the season 12-9.
Reynoldsburg advances to play Upper Arlington Monday at Olentangy Liberty. The Golden Bears beat Westland 68-30.

Lady Cavs Beat Logan 59-50, Advance to play Reynoldsburg
Thursday 02-18-2010 11:04am ET
Logan won the first two meetings by six points each. The Cavs got their revenge with a 59-50 win in the Girls Division 1 Central District tournament. Holly Lemay had a career night with 25 points to lead all scorers. After trailing 10-5 midway through the 1st Quarter, the Cavs put together a string of baskets to pull ahead 16-13 by the end of the period. The Cavs outscored their SEOAL nemesis 11-7 for a 27-20 lead at the half. Chillicothe coach Shawn Blue said he wanted his team to press defensively and push the ball up the floor against Logan to wear the Chieftains down. That strategy worked as Chillicothe capitalized on Logan turnovers and jumped ahead by 13 points. The Cavs Whitney Harewood scored 10 for the only other double-figure scorer for Chillicothe. The Cavs will play Reynoldsburg in the next round on Wednesday 2/24 at Hamilton Township High School. Photos by Dana Cousins wbex.com Purchase photos
