The two squads played tight ball in the opening period with Chillicothe leading 13-11, but in the second quarter the Lady Cavs out-shot the Tigers 20-12 to take a 10-point lead. The Cavs would then stretch their lead to 46-27 with 1:20 left in the third quarter, before foul trouble and fatigue set in. Marietta inched within 10 points with a minute left in the game for a late charge.
Lee fouled out with :27 left, and a Marietta shooter put up two free throws to cut the lead to 5. An additional trip to the line cut the deficit to 65-61.
Marietta’s Leann Ross then hit a 3 with less than :10 left, but the Tigers couldn’t get another shot in by the end of regulation. Ross led all scorers with 32 points; Chillicothe was led by Holly Casto-Lemay with 21 points and Monique Lee’s 20. Marietta was 24/37 from the foul line for 67%, while just 17/64 from the field for 27%. Marietta now stands at (8-1) in the SEOAL; Chillicothe improves to (5-3).
