Looking Ahead
Tuesday 03-01-2011 7:38am ET

The Lady Cavs struggled their way through 2010-11 hobbled by injury and inexperience but if there was any light at the end of the tunnel, it appears there is help on the way.

The Chillicothe 8th grade girls won the Wellston tournament early last week, beating Athens 43-31.

All Tourney awards went to Shay Lett, Ali Perry and Tourney MVP Jenna Holton.

The 8th grade team finished the season 18-2.

Combined, this class had a Middle School record of 31-4.

Raiders Post Big Win Over CHS, 94-5
Saturday 02-19-2011 8:39pm ET

The Chillicothe Lady Cavs were ousted in the opening round of tournament play, Saturday, as Reynoldsburg beat them, 94-5. The Raiders were selected as the #1 seed in the Central District tournament and had a deep bench with height and a strong full-court press that forced many Chillicothe turnovers.

Reynoldsburg junior Aliyah Zantt led all scorers with 15 points.

Chillicothe was without three players as the injured list included Alyssa Oates, Kayla Keener, and Kindle Viney.

The Lady Cavs (0-21) will graduate one senior in Natalie Howie.

Lady Cavs Fall to Jackson 71-22
Saturday 02-12-2011 8:35pm ET

The Lady Cavs fell short once again in a bid to pick up their first win of the season in the final game of the regular season, falling 71-22 to the Jackson Ironladies on Saturday Night.

Chillicothe had difficulty matching up with the half court trapping zone defense from Jackson from the very beginning of the game, a task made tougher by the absence of starting center Alyssa Oates and starting forward Kayla Keener both out due to injury. The lady Cavs could only manage 8 shots in the first half and allowed the Ironladies to jump out to a 20-4 lead after the first quarter. From there on, Jackson used an up tempo fast break offensive game plan to take control of the game and also keep the Cavaliers out of an offensive and defensive rhythm.

Chillicothe was led in scoring by Junior Mindy Williams who had 11 points and Junior Kaylee Wright finished with 6 points for the Cavs. For the Ironladies Nicole Chapman paced the team with 15 points while Whitney Wills and Emily Cooper added 8 and 7 points respectively.

The Cavaliers also honored their lone senior Natalie Howie in her final home contest as a Cavalier. Howie, who has a 3.7 GPA while taking Post-Secondary courses at Ohio Christian University and plans to attend Wright State next years, is in her first season playing basketball for the Cavaliers.

Cavs enter tournament action against top seeded Reynoldsberg on Saturday Feb. 19th beginning at 6PM. You can listen to the contest on 1490 WBEX with pre game at approximately 5:45.

The Lady Cavs season got a bit more challenging thanks to their tournament draw Sunday. View the Central District Bracket

Chillicothe will travel to Hamilton Township Saturday 2/19 to face Reynoldsburg at 6pm. The Raiders ended Chillicothe's season last February 47-33.

The Raiders were selected as the #1 seed in the Central District tournament. They were also ranked #5 in last week's Associated Press Girls Basketball Poll.

Chillicothe (0-17) dropped a 59-25 decision Saturday night at Warren. They'll be back on the road tonight for a snow make-up date with the Logan Chieftains. Logan holds first place in the SEOAL. Last week, the Chieftains beat Chillicothe 60-25 at Hatton Gym.

Saturday 01-29-2011 10:12pm ET

The Gallia Academy Blue Angels used defensive pressure to force 25 Chillicothe turnovers to their 13 en route to a 64-25 win, Saturday. After the first quarter of play, Gallia was up 19-7 and used a full-court press to force 12 Chillicothe turnovers. In the second quarter, the Lady Cavaliers kept their turnover rate under control with only 2 and forced Gallia into committing 6. Gallia Academy led 30-14 at the half and never looked back as they went up 49-18 after three periods of play, and then pulled away to the 64-25 final.

The Blue Angels were 24/56 for 43% from the field and 13/21 for 62% from the foul line. Gallia Academy's senior guard Mattie Lanham led all scorers with 19 points, while junior forward Haley Rosier chipped in 9.

The Lady Cavaliers shot 10/38 for 26% from the field and 5/10 from the foul line. Chillicothe's junior guard Mindy Williams led her team with 7 points.

Warren Takes Cavaliers 55-25
Thursday 12-30-2010 12:57pm ET
Chillicothe's offensive struggles continued Wednesday night in their 55-25 loss to Warren.

The Cavs (0-9/0-3) were held to single digits in each quarter.

In fact, only one player on the night had a hot hand, Warren's Jordanna Rauch who poured in 20 points.

Chillicothe trailed 12-9 after the first quarter, but then the Warriors took control outscoring the Cavs 10-4 in the second for a 22-13 halftime lead, then 18-6 in the third and 15-6 in the final period.
