Watterson holds off Chillicothe 47-43

The charity wasn't so charitable to the Cavs; Photo Credit: Dana CousinsThe Lady Cavs found themselves in a hole early, trailing 16-9 after the first quarter, but managed to rally for a 23-21 halftime lead, outscoring the Eagles 14-5 in the second. Watterson battled back to take a 36-34 lead into the fourth quarter and held on for the 47-43 victory. Chillicothe had difficulty hitting foul shots, managing just 6 of 13. Jasmine Vinson led the double-figure scorers with 17 points. Hannah Day added 12. Chillicothe slips to 3-2 on the season and gets back to SEOAL play with the Logan Chieftains at Hatton Gym Friday night.
Chillicothe has successful trip to Gallipolis, 63-21

Jasmine Vinson and Hannah Day paced the Cavs with 11 points each. The two clubs will meet again in Chillicothe January 14th. The Lady Cavs return to Hatton Gym Wednesday night in a non-league match with Columbus powerhouse Bishop Watterson. The Lady Eagles were 21-2 last season and coasted through the Central Catholic League at 10-0. Melissa Gilliland and Daiva Gerber are two of eight returning lettermen for Watterson. Gilliland and Gerber combined for nearly 22 points per game.
Cavs Wins at Zane Trace, 38-27

Vinson awarded game MVP; Photo credit Jim DayAt the KNB/McDonald's Tip-Off Classic, playing on just 17 hours rest, Chillicothe followed up Friday's win over Huntington with a 38-27 victory at Zane Trace. Jasmine Vinson paced the Lady Cavs attack scoring over half the team's points with a game high 20. Vinson was selected the game's MVP for a second straight night.
Lady Cavs Rebound Their Way to Win

The Lady Cavaliers used their height and strength to out-rebound their way to a 33-22 win over Huntington at the Chillicothe Hoops Showcase, Friday. The Cavaliers led the entire game, as they grabbed 32 total rebounds compared to Huntington's 19. Chillicothe's Mariah Smith had 10 rebounds. The Cavs were aggressive inside the paint and were led by senior Jasmine Vinson who hit 12 points and senior Hannah Day with 8. Huntington's Bridgette Neighbors led all scorers with 15 points. The Lady Cavaliers (1-1 overall) will face Zane Trace at the Tip Off Classic, Saturday.
Lady Cavs are getting ready for new season

The Lady Cavs have a final tune up for the 2008-09 basketball season Friday and Saturday at Pickerington North High School.
Before you know it, the season tips off at Paint Valley with Chillicothe's first appearance in the Paint Valley Lady Cats Classic on Saturday Novermber 29th with the Minford Falcons.
Chillicothe will play in several invitationals. After their stop at Paint Valley, the home opener will be the first game in the Chillicothe Hoops Showcase at Hatton Memorial Gymnasium December 5th. The next day, the Cavs return to the Zane Trace Tip-Off Classic to face the host Lady Pioneers. In January, it's a first time meeting with Cincinati Glen Este in the Fairfield Federal All Ohio Girls Prep Shootout at Pickerington Central High School.
Chillicothe's SEOAL South Division title defense begins at Gallia Academy on December 9th.
The Cavs graduated Whitney Lynch, Lova Green and Megan Lee (now a freshman guard at Presbyterian College in South Carolina).
Coach Amy Hughes will have Meghan Martin, Brittney Strawser, Mo Lee, Jasmine Vinson returning from the 2007-08 starting lineup. Missing from that group last year, Hannah Day, who was rehabing from surgery from a knee injury suffered in a scrimmage before the season began last November.
Vanessa Doyle will host The Amy Hughes Show on WBEX this season with daily updates on the Lady Cavs. Catch the show at 7:15am Monday through Friday during "Dan & Mike in the Morning" on 1490 WBEX. Doyle will join Greg Bigham on the four Cavs broadcasts on WBEX this season, beginning December 5th from Hatton Gym.
