A well-known broadcaster, humanitarian, and businessman passed away, Saturday, at the age of 71. Steven Stevens was a Chillicothe native, who began his broadcasting career in Ross County, but later moved on to bigger markets in Cincinnati and St. Louis.

He was inducted into the "St. Louis Broadcast Hall of Fame" in 2009, and also recorded many Bible translations that have been duplicated millions of times.

Stevens, of Cincinnati, also supported and befriended missionaries worldwide and made over 20 trips to Africa. In the 1990s, he led many groups into Russia, bringing in medical supplies and Bibles.

Dick Rutherford, who worked with him at WBEX in Chillicothe, said Stevens enjoyed his broadcasting career.

"He was reaching out to people; he was sharing so many different things with them, whether it be the news," said Rutherford. "I think he felt that it made a difference."

Stevens is survived by his wife, Gisela, with whom he had four daughters.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at Vineyard Cincinnati Church, in Springdale, on Wednesday, October 10th at 10am.

In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make a donation to the Steven B. Stevens Foundation, which will continue supporting mission work in his name.
