Service Director John Ankrom surprised councilman Mike Logan when Logan asked if the proposed trash hauling bids could be reviewed soon. 

With samples of other city's arrangements, Circleville's proposal is almost ready. 

This is for a single large hauler to serve Circleville...if the bids show a reduction in cost to customers from the current free-for-all. 

And, this covers only major trash operators.  Small haulers, who use pickup trucks instead of the trash-packer dump trucks, would be exempt. 

The "Long Range Strategic Planning Committee" will review the bids December 12th, and bids could be sent out after the beginning of the year.

With all the federally funded demolitions of abandoned houses, councilman Mike Logan suggested an alternative to having the city mow a few of what will probably become abandoned lots.  He suggested turning them into community gardens. 

Logan said a few members of his ward agreed with the idea, and if legal issues could be overcome, block captains could oversee the 'victory gardens.' 

Service Director John Ankrom said most properties will probably go to responsible owners, but Logan figures five or six of the 40 to be cleared could become productive.   

So far, 23 buildings have been demolished.
