Chillicothe residents have been reporting a phone scam that targets the elderly. Police Office Bud Lytle said it's a common scam: "We get them probably once or twice a year portraying being the grandkid and either being in jail and out of the country needing bond money or being robbed."

He advises anyone who gets these types of calls to confirm the information is true with another family member before sending any money. Lytle said that it's very difficult and rare to reclaim money from scams in which money is wired out of the US.

Locals are encouraged to report these types of calls as they occur so authorities can raise public awareness within the community.
