The Fraternal Order of Police, First Capital Lodge #59, is holding its annual golf tournament with proceeds to benefit the "Shop with a Cop" program, in which officers take under privileged children shopping for Christmas gifts.
"Last year, . . . we raised a little over $3,800; Walmart matches that," Chillicothe Police Officer Bud Lytle said.
"We were able to shop for 51 kids, last year, at $150 a kid, but the more money we raise through this event, the more kids that we're able to help in our community."
Last year, Officer Lytle shopped with a little girl who was surprised when he told her she still had around half of the money that was allotted to her to spend. He added that children in the program tend to think of others when selecting gifts: "Numerous times, throughout the years, I've had kids say, 'Hey, I would like to buy something for my brother or sister.'"
Cost for the Good Guy-Bad Guy Golf Outing is $50 per player, which covers food, greens fees, and a cart. The four-person scramble will take place at Rivers Edge Golf Course on August 3rd with an 8am registration and 9am shotgun start.
The deadline to register is Saturday, July 27. For more information, call 773-1191.
