Coach Jeff Lisath will go out as Piketon Redstreaks boys basketball coach this year with an SVC title. Winners of three straight titles, the Redstreaks clinched the undisputed championship with a 57-48 win over Zane Trace.
Piketon trailed only once in the game, 34-33 late in the third quarter, before quickly retaking the lead 36-34 to end the third period. The Redstreaks darted to a 17-6 lead after the first quarter and were up 25-16 lead at halftime.
PIketon had three men in double figures, led by Craigen Moore's 19 points, Isaac Brabson and Wyatt Brewster each had 10 points. Zach Farmer added 7 points and 8 rebounds.
Zane Trace had a monster effort from Wes Beam, scoring 17 points and grabbing 18 rebounds. Connor Smith added 12 points and 7 rebounds and Pierce Mowery and Eric Hutton had 8 and 7 points respectively.
Free throws down the stretch proved to be one of the differences for Piketon in the win. Neither team shot well from the field. Piketon was 19/52- including 2/10 from the arc for 37%. Zane Trace was 20/54 for 39%- including 4/9 from the arc.
From the charity stripe, Piketon made up the difference on 13/15 while ZT was 8/11.
Zane Trace owned the glass, 40-28 in rebounds, despite the loss. Piketon played a great floor game with only 5 turnovers, with Zane Trace committing 14.
Piketon wins the outright title and improve to (12-1/16-3) and Zane Trace drops to (8-3/13-4).
