Opening and operating the city pool dominated council
Parks & Recreation chair Tom Trutschel introduced legislation at the last minute to use $100,000 of the delicate general fund to open the Donald M. Smith Memorial Pool soon.
It is hoped the tight general fund will be paid back - perhaps in excess - by pool admissions, park shelter rentals, and donations to the pool fund.
Pat Patrick asked pointed questions about the numbers, admitting her financial intuition has usually been darkly accurate.
But Mayor Everson assured her the city will not go into the red, and she voted for the legislation. Only Dustin Proehl voted no, saying he 'is not a gambling man.'
It's hoped the pool will open the second week of June.
Mayor Everson says he is also working on better long-term management and funding of the pool.
