The Sheriff is reviewing ways to maximize inmate housing.
Ross County Sheriff George Lavender is working on improving the county's jail contracts with the County Commissioners to house other counties'
and police department's inmates. Lavender says the cost of housing an inmate can be up to around $70-80 in a regional jail, but in Chillicothe that number is lower: "Out of our whole budget, at least 81-82% of all of our costs go to employee salaries and then the operation cost is off of that, but we're down to around $46-46 to house per day."
The jail is also working with counties to bring female inmates to the local jail as the Law Complex has an entire floor dedicated to housing them.
The jail no longer houses inmates from Pike County; however, Fairfield still sends some overflow inmates to Ross County.
