State and federal emergency declared

AEP is estimating that it will not have power completely restored to the Chillicothe area until July 5th.

Gov. John Kasich says President Barack Obama has declared a federal emergency in Ohio because of severe weather and extensive power outages across state. The governor has declared a state of emergency and called out the National Guard. Kasich says the emergency declaration announced Saturday night will allow the government to provide direct assistance such as generators and water.

Kasich hopes supplies should start arriving soon. More than 900,000 Ohio residents were facing the heat wave without power in the aftermath of the severe storms that struck with powerful, damaging winds.

The Chillicothe chapter of the American Red Cross has set up a cooling shelter at 730 Orange street in the Westside Church of the Nazarene gymnasium. The facility has air conditioning, and food and beverages. @
