Scholarships Awarded to Area Students

$7,000 added to the awards this year

Chillicothe, OH : The Chillicothe-Ross Community Foundation has awarded $19,500 to 26 scholars for the 2012 - 2013 academic year, an increase of more than $7,000 over last year. This represents scholarships from 10 funds, two of which are new funds.

The scholarship application period for the 2013 - 2014 academic year will open in January 2013. Information is provided on the Community Foundation’s website, www.crcf.net <http://www.crcf.net>.

The 2012 - 2013 scholarship recipients, by scholarship fund, are:

 

Ben Hartsock Scholarship Fund

Giving back to his home community, Unioto High School, Ohio State and NFL football player Ben Hartsock and his wife Amy provide scholarships annually to local students. Nominees are evaluated on four criteria: academic excellence, athletic excellence, 4-H excellence, and community service. This year’s scholarship recipients are:

Morgan Gumm, a graduate of Unioto High School, plans to attend Mount Vernon Nazarene University pursuing a degree in nursing.

Emily Manson, a graduate of Unioto High School, plans to attend Southern State Community College pursuing a degree in nursing. Emily hopes to become a labor and delivery nurse.

Malachi Pulliam, a graduate of Paint Valley High School, plans to attend The Ohio State University pursuing a degree in special education. Malachi hopes to become a school psychologist.

Lauren Stout, a graduate of Unioto High School, plans to attend Otterbein University pursuing a degree in biology. Lauren hopes to one day practice pediatric dentistry.

Logan Whitten, a graduate of Unioto High School, plans to attend The Ohio State University pursuing a degree in engineering.

 

Mary Margaret Black Scholarship Fund

As a lasting memory to Mary Margaret Black, a Ross County, Ohio resident concerned about education, annual scholarships provide funds for college students. This year’s scholarship recipients are:

Jacob Hull, a graduate of Unioto High School, plans to attend Ohio Northern University pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering.

Brittany Moore, a graduate of Unioto High School, plans to attend Ohio Northern University pursuing a Doctorate of Pharmacy.

 

Chillicothe Bicentennial Scholars Fund

The Chillicothe Bicentennial Scholars Fund was established for Chillicothe High School graduates by the Chillicothe Bicentennial Commission to leave a lasting legacy of its successful and memorable celebration of Chillicothe’s remarkable history of two hundred years. This year’s recipients are:

Chantel Lowe plans to attend the University of Cincinnati pursuing a degree in industrial design.

Madison Moss, Valedictorian of the Class of 2012, plans to attend Ohio University pursuing a degree in broadcast journalism.

 

Mildred Cunningham / Dorothy Fuchsman Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Mildred Cunningham/Dorothy Fuchsman Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to leave a lasting legacy in the memory of Mildred Cunningham and Dorothy Fuchsman. Awards are granted annually to graduates of Chillicothe High School. This year’s recipients are:

Chantel Lowe plans to attend the University of Cincinnati pursuing a degree in industrial design.

Alexis Mettler plans to attend the University of Toledo pursuing a degree in chemical engineering. Alexis hopes to pursue a career in the field of alternative fuel sources.

Audra Metzler plans to attend The Ohio State University pursuing a degree in clinical psychology. Audra hopes to one day own a clinical psychology practice.

Madison Moss, Valedictorian of the Class of 2012, plans to attend Ohio University pursuing a degree in broadcast journalism.

Alyssa Oates plans to attend Kansas State University pursuing a degree in agriculture. Alyssa hopes to pursue a career equine management and reproduction.

Chelsea Smith plans to attend Ohio Dominican University pursuing a degree in education. Chelsea hopes to become a kindergarten teacher.

Krysten Stephens plans to attend Kent State University pursuing a degree in photography.

Melinda Williams plans to attend Ohio University studying pre-medicine. Melinda hopes to become an anesthesiologist.

 

McCallum Family Scholarship Fund for Chillicothe High School Graduates

The McCallum Family Scholarship Fund for Chillicothe High School Graduates was established by Scott McCallum in memory of his father John L. McCallum. John was a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley and was a Certified Public Accountant by trade. Education was important to John and this scholarship provides educational funds in his memory. This year’s recipient is:

Krysten Stephens who plans to attend Kent State University pursuing a degree in photography.

 

Roy A. Congrove Memorial Fund

Honoring the memory of Mr. Roy A. Congrove, a basketball coach and mentor to Zane Trace High School students, scholarships are awarded annually to Zane Trace graduates. This year’s recipients are:

Cole Arnold plans to attend Cedarville University pursing a degree in pastoral studies. Cole hopes to pursue a career in ministry or missions.

Ian Carle plans to attend either Marshall University or Ohio University pursuing a degree in nursing.

Kelsey Dunkle plans to attend Marshall University pursuing a degree in broadcast journalism. Kelsey hopes to become a sports broadcaster.

 

Roger and Emily Benner Fund for Paint Valley Graduates

In lasting memory of their parents, the daughters of Roger and Emily Benner have established an annual scholarship to be awarded to a qualified graduate of Paint Valley High School. This year’s scholarship recipient is:

Kaitlyn Reed plans to attend Ohio University Chillicothe pursuing a degree in nursing. Kaitlyn hopes to become a pediatric nurse.

 

Class of 1968 Scholarship Fund for Adena High School Graduates

The Adena Class of 1968 Scholarship Fund awards an annual scholarship to a qualified senior student graduating from Adena High School. This year’s recipient is:

Alexandra Roll-Miller plans to attend The Ohio State University pursing a degree in speech and hearing science. Alexandra hopes to pursue a career in speech pathology and audiology.

 

MZT Spirit Scholarship Fund for Adena High School Graduates

The MZT Spirit Scholarship Fund for Adena High School Graduates was established by the friends and loved ones of Marsha Zurmehly Tootle. This year’s recipients are:

Sydnee Anders plans to attend the Art Academy of Cincinnati pursuing a fine arts degree.

Katie Glandon plans to attend Indiana Wesleyan University pursing a degree in nursing.

 

Friends of the Community Scholarship Fund

The Friends of the Community Scholarship Fund for Adena High School Graduates was established by community members to assist Adena High School graduating seniors. This year’s scholarship recipient is:

Autumn Smith plans to attend Wilmington College. Autumn has not yet decided her major but would like to pursue a career in the field of physical therapy.

Since 1996, the Chillicothe-Ross Community Foundation, a public charity, has provided donors an avenue with which they may enhance the quality of life for Ross County residents.
