Residents are urged to be careful when maintaining trees impacted by recent storms.

Many people might spend a portion of their weekend cleaning up their yards and fixing broken tree limbs that resulted from recent storms. OSU Extension Agent Chris Bruynis warns those people to take caution when using a chainsaw: "Never cut branches above your head or from a ladder; it's extremely dangerous."

In addition, he said it's hard to predict how broken branches or limbs will fall.

"Trees that are hung up on other trees or wires or buildings are especially hazardous," said Bruynis.

DP&L says many of the recent outages were caused by dead and dying ash trees that were destroyed by the emerald ash borer.
