From 1 to 7 Saturday, get cooled...and ice to preserve food and other items
Waverly High School is the Pike County Cooling Shelter while the power is out and the heat is on.
Come to the cafeteria entrance...and there might be bags of ice available too. The site will be open from 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday, and ice will be available first-come first-serve until it might run out.
Don Simonton is with Pike County Emergency Management, and he said the facility is needed because of the crisis caused by the heat...and then the latest storm outages.
The facility is not just to get cool, but to keep other items cold, with the power cut to many residents' refrigerators and freezers.
