An inmate allegedly assaulted another while in the jail's video court room.

A Ross County Jail inmate was assaulted, Monday. A deputy reported he was conducting video court in the jail when 24-year-old Jeremy L. Lewis entered and assaulted 30-year-old Mario S. Lee.

Lewis and Lee, both of Chillicothe, said they had words that morning after Lee looked inside Lewis's cell.

Lewis told authorities he wanted to "get" to Lee before Lee could get him, and that he didn't "like black people due to a situation that happened in prison," according to the report.

Lewis was charged with assault. He was being held in jail on a number of misdemeanor charges including theft, aggravated menacing, obstructing official business, and possession of a drug abuse instrument.

Lee was in jail for misdemeanor assault.
