Emergency haying or grazing approved
Due to the lack of rainfall in the last few weeks, the Department of Agriculture is issuing the go ahead for farmers to hay or graze fields that are listed under the Conservation Program.
Laura Crawford with the Farm Service Agency, says "If farmers are interested in haying or grazing their CRP prep or safe acres, they are authorized for emergency haying or grazing as of as of 7-23-12. Instead of the typical 25 percent reduction to the CRP payment there will be a 10 percent reduction."
She also said farmers are only allowed to hay 50 percent of the land in the Conservation Program.
Farmers must contact the FSA office to apply 740-772-1711.
