A 17-year-old male drowned while swimming late Tuesday night

A drowning in Ross Lake has been confirmed from overnight.

The Ross County Sheriff's Department reports they were called to the lake at 11:50pm Tuesday concerning an individual who had disappeared in the water while trying to swim across the lake. 17-year-old Josh Spencer ran into trouble while swimming 25-35 feet from the bank.

His companions, Brian Gibson, Clancy Spano and another juvenile say they got into the water in an attempt to assist Spencer, but were unsuccessful.

Personnel from the sheriff's department, Scioto, Springfield and Union Townships assisted in the underwater search, where they finally recovered Spencer's body at approximately 1:50am.

The Ross County Coroner pronounced Spencer dead at the scene.
