Republican running for Congressional 2nd District Seat

The Republican candidate for Congress in the 2nd district was on the stump in Chillicothe on Thursday.

Dr. Brad Wenstrup, held a meet and great with voters in Grinders Coffee House in downtown Chillicothe. Wenstrup has been a Podiatrist for 26 years and is a graduate from the University of Cincinnati. He defeated incumbent congresswoman Jean Schmidt in the March primary.

Redistricting has added most of Chillicothe and southern Ross County to the district. Wenstrup he would share the county with Steve Stivers, who was with him Thursday morning along with State Representative Bob Peterson and Former Member of the Ohio House of Representatives Bob McEwen.

Wenstrup joined the Army Reserves in 1998 served as a Chief of Surgery in a combat support hospital in Iraq. Wenstrup called it "the worst thing, and the best thing, I ever got to do" after his tour in Iraq he returned home and ran for Cincinnati Mayor.

He lost the Mayoral race but received 47 percent of the vote against the incumbent opponent Wenstrup said after that, he asked himself what else he would like to do and Congress seemed the logical choice.

He'll have to beat Democrat William Smith in the fall.
