The woman was believed to be the only one in the house at the time of the incident.
At 7:47pm Thursday, the Ross County Sheriff reports his office was called to 619 George Hollow Road. The caller stated that his neighbor, 18-year-old Sheila Hardin stepped out her front porch and screamed for him to call the squad. The neighbor continues that he heard what sounded like a gunshot and saw a flash of light and then saw the victim Hardin fall to the floor of her front porch.
Deputies arrived on the scene at 7:56pm Franklin Township Squad arrived shortly thereafter. Hardin was discovered to have a single gun shot wound to the right side of her abdomen. She was transported to Adena Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead at approximately 8:45pm.
A 9 mm semi-automatic pistol was recovered from the scene. Neighbors reported to deputies that that they believed Sheila Hardin to be the only one home at the time of the shooting.
The Ross County Coroner’s Office is assisting in this investigation to determine the cause and mechanism of death. This incident is still under investigation.
