Crop insurance companies agreed to a grace period for farmers on their insurance premiums in 2012.

The dry conditions are making a statewide impact. Doug O'Brien, Deputy Under Secretary for USDA Rural Development, says it's particularly hitting local farmers.

O'Brien commented during a visit to the Ross County Fair Thursday afternoon.

Recently, the Ag Secretary, Tom Vilsack, expanded emergency haying and grazing on conservation land to give relief to livestock producers experiencing shortages of hay. He also announced that crop insurance companies agreed to a grace period for farmers on their insurance premiums in 2012.
