Applications are being accepted for state troopers
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is seeking applicants in order to fill 300 trooper positions.
"The state had a hiring freeze several years ago; meanwhile, we're still losing people at a pretty good pace through retirement," said Trooper Todd Carpenter. "We're simply restaffing at this point."
Carpenter said applicants must be 20-34 years old, a U.S. citizen, have a high school diploma or GED, and a valid Ohio driver's license. The next step is to complete an intense 20-week training academy.
"They're actually paid to go through the training at $18.66 an hour; once they graduate our academy, the first year salary is $49,842," said Carpenter.
