Joe Biden stopped by the Obama Field Office in Chillicothe Saturday to make some campaign calls.
Vice President Joe Biden made a surprise stop in Chillicothe Saturday, where he visited the Obama for President field office-- the first opened by the Obama campaign this cycle and one of 75 in the state.
The field office is also located in Ross County, one of the bellwether counties for picking presidents and a place where thousands filled the town square to catch a glimpse of Romney last month.
Biden spoke on the phone with some undecided voters who were being called by OFA volunteers.
One of the undecideds Biden spoke with was married to a man who, like Biden, was from Delaware. She put her husband on the phone, and he hit it off with Biden.
"Harry Truman used to say if you want to live like a Republican, vote Democrat," Biden told the man, after the two had already discussed where in Delaware they were from.
The Delaware-turned-Chillicothe man, Jack Woods, and his wife then came down to the field office to meet Biden in person. Woods lived in Newark, Delaware.
Biden also talked to two women in a committed relationship who are now Obama volunteers.
"He thanked us for our courage and for hanging in there," said Cathy Pool, who met Biden with her partner, Mendy Yates. Asked about Obama's public stance on gay marriage, Pool said "it means everything in the world to me. "There hasn't been a presidential candidate yet, there's hardly been any governors or senators to come out and say that. It's nice to be recognized."
Biden also met Jane Ragland, 78, of Chillicothe, who was a convention delegate for Obama back in 2008.
After several minutes inside the field office, Biden came out onto the sidewalk, where, after posing with Woods he went over to talk to a gathering that had formed on the street corner.
"I'm sorry I've caused all this commotion in you're neighborhood," Biden said.
Biden then spoke with Rod Siddon who was holding a dog in his arms. Biden petted the dog --named Karma.
